I'll Take 9 - Bumble - B&Q Coat Hook
The bumble coat hook with a difference, is designed to function within the home environment without the need for permanent fixings such as screws. The design targets the young to middle-aged shoppers in B&Q, who lack the tools, time or permission to drill a coat hook attachment to the wall of their rented accommodation.
The coat hooks can be placed securely around any standard sized staircase spindles, taking advantage of a pre existing structure that is rarely utilized.
The versatile design allows for the hook to be placed at any point on the upright allowing the height at which the hook hangs to be determined by the user, who can therefore form a line of coat hooks at a chosen height, or place the coat hook in a more random arrangement, creating the appearance of an organized mess, whilst allowing coat hooks to be positioned at child-friendly height that can be changed as the child grows.
12 days were required for the objects to be conceptualized, the manufacturing process designed and then implemented. The Rubber bobble and feet where cast from silicon and the bent wire frame was produced on a 4 stage bending Jig.
Bumble was developed in collaboration with Emma Laurin and Jo Eun Hee as part of a 3 week micro manufacturing project called ‘I’ll take 9’.
