Pulse
Pulse is an interactive sports environment and online service that aims to encourage people to maintain a more active lifestyle as a form of preventative therapy. The sports environment is a low cost system that allows users to record and challenge themselves based on existing achievements. The exercise statistics can be accessed online and put into context by an avatar - a visual of your future self that helps deepen an understanding of the impact of lifestyle choices. This motivates people on many different levels to invest in their future self.
The design aims to be inclusive to all with the long-term possibility to extend the healthy human lifespan.

The project was done in collaboration with Gaurav Raut and Joel Trotter, with sponsorship from Rio Tinto in the later stages of the project.
Programming and technical support was provided by Edward Horsford.
Over the course of the project the team made contact with many individuals of varying ability including some in the early stages of dementia, This user centered design perspective allowed us to take on board multiple perspectives of older individuals and the support network that surrounds them. It is from these insights we chose to develop Pulse. We would like to deeply thank all the individuals who took the time to share their experiences with us.
